Rules of the Game
Performance makers interested in taking part in INTERNATIONAL NOTICE respond to the Open Call.
Eligible performances are entered into a lottery to avoid curatorial bias. Performances are selected.
Writer 1 – an artist working in a similar field to the performance in question – and Writer 2 – a member of the public with a thematic connection to the performance – are assigned to the piece.
The two writers receive press tickets to their performance. If they choose, they may attend the performance together, on a kind of writer ‘date’.
The two writers each write a response of around 500 words according to the criteria developed in the pilot phase of the project. They are assigned an editor to work with them to make sure they are happy with their text, and that the text corresponds to the project criteria.
The performance maker receives the two texts. The two texts are translated (either from English into German, or German into English) and are then published on the website.
Writer 3 – the performance maker – writes their text, also of about 500 words. They are also assigned an editor to work with.
The performance maker’s text is also translated and published on the website, completing the Performance Triangulation process.
